Canadian Science Policy Conference
TORONTO OCTOBER 28-30

This conference represents a measured first step towards building a robust science policy network in Canada. Such a system will be critical for producing the next generation of policy-makers who understand S&T issues, as well as scientists who understand how to integrate their research into a broader societal context for the benefit of all Canadians.

National Undergraduate Science Research Poster Competition

Where: The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC.

What is Rising Stars of Research?
RSR is a poster competition and gathering of Canada’s top undergraduate scientists and engineering researchers. It is a great opportunity for young researchers to participate in Canada’s only national multidisciplinary undergraduate research poster competition, and present their work to a scientific audience. Network with like-minded peers and faculty researchers who share your passion for innovation and discovery.

Travel cost (to an established maximum) and accommodation will be covered for selected students.

Who should apply?
Students enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at any Canadian college or university, during the January–April 2009 term and who are or were involved with research projects in the science, health and technology fields.

If you have conducted a research project in your UG science or engineering program, you can apply to be accepted for one of the 100 spots in the event. Outstanding applicants will receive a $500 travel award as well as a waiver of the registration fee. All other participants will need to pay the 150$ registration fee. All 100 participants receive free room and board on the beautiful UBC Vancouver campus.

La SCBBMC offre un soutien financier aux étudiants de cycles supérieurs et stagiaires de recherche afin de réaliser une variété d’activités reliées à la biochimie, à la biologie moléculaire ou à la biologie cellulaire. Les activités commanditées comprennent entre autres:

Symposium scientifique, où des conférenciers scientifiques discutent de sujets touchant la biochimie, biologie moléculaire ou biologie cellulaire.

Conférences sur les recherches des étudiants, où des étudiants présentent leurs recherches sous forme d’affiches ou de conférences.

Salon de l’emploi ou ateliers d’orientation dans les domaines reliés à la biochimie, la biologie moléculaire ou la biologie cellulaire.

Chaque année, la société commandite plusieurs événements, jusqu’à concurrence de 500 $ par événement, sur le principe de premier arrivé, premier servi.

Les organisations d’étudiants qui désirent obtenir un soutien financier pour une activité, tel que décrit ci-dessus, doivent communiquer avec le secrétaire de la SCBBMC (voir les coordonnées ci-dessous), préparer une courte description de l’activité prévue et inscrire le montant demandé.
